Tell you what. There are young Europeans and Americans who will be upset about Notre Dame burning to the ground.
But do you know what would really upset them more?
If Disneyland Paris had burned down. I’m sure, students from all over the world have walked (quickly) around the inside of the cathedral, taking copious quantities of selfies, and not having a clue as to what they were seeing or experiencing. I’m not including art students who would delight at the exhibits and unique ambience of the Cathedral. But most kids would be bored and want out.
What we have here is 850 years of history going up in flames, synonymous with an attack on European culture which has included arson attacks on churches all over France over the past few months. And we all know where they are coming from. We have to teach our youngsters that bread and circuses are fine up to a point. But we must do more in Europe to protect our heritage.
