Decade by decade
Decay decay decay
Wanting not needing
Fighting not reading,
Envy, most fingered word
In the thesaurus,
Omits jealousy, stark difference,
Covet thy neighbor’s biodegradable
Possessions,
As the sun shines on a sandy beach
Make your own rules
Out of your own sharpened tools,
It came to this, predictably
War after war after war
On the battlefield, in the fields,
In the airport, supermarket, theme park
Fill in the blanks
Then complain about bleeding,
A slow agonizing pain
Succumbing to your own
Hidden desires.
